Good, but not quite perfect

I ordered the Roomba j7+ self-emptying robot but unfortunately ran in to difficulties as soon as it was delivered.
The product was supplied with a 2-pin power cord rather than the 3-pin power cord needed for the UK. I called the iRobot helpline and was advised that a power cord would be sent separately. However the operative didn’t take my order number. I then sent an email query requesting the correct cord. In the meantime I was able to use my own power cord from my Xbox One. For a product of this level of expense I found this disappointing and expected far better.
The j7+ was nicely packaged and easy to open. The box included a spare filter, spare brush, quick start guide, user manual and (incorrect) power cord with 2-pin plug.
The j7+ comes with minimal instructions but was easy to set up and charge. It was also easy to connect the j7+ to the iRobot app. However I had had to reboot the unit a few times after it lost connection in order to reconnect it.
The light on the robot is a nice feature, as is the ability to schedule a clean and to divide a large open plan area in to smaller “rooms.” The robot is fairly quiet while in operation.
Self-emptying is noisy but only lasts 3-4 seconds, and the robot returns itself to base to empty. Non-reusable dirt bags (two included) are located in the base. I couldn’t see spares to buy on the iRobot website so would be interested to know how long they take to fill and how much replacements cost.
The robot maps as it cleans but also had a mapping function with no vacuuming.
The robot has all-purpose rubber brushes underneath - these are a definite plus as they don’t get anywhere near as clogged with fibres from our woollen rug as with my generic entry level robot vac.
The j7+ took a photo of a cable obstacle for review in the app. However when I removed the cable and asked the robot to go back and spot clean that area, it bumped in to the sofa, said there was an obstacle in the way and returned to base.
So in summary the j7+ has some nice features such as the self-emptying, all-purpose brushes, camera feature and light. But there also some annoyances such as the incorrect power cord, connectivity issues, availability and cost of replacement dust bags, and failure to spot clean missed areas when requested.
On balance it’s a nice machine but I remain unconvinced that it’s worth the full retail price that it is currently available for in the UK market.
